Sheer curtains are made from lightweight, semi-transparent fabric (commonly voile, chiffon or fine linen) that filters natural light while keeping the view from outside softened. They are popular for layering with blockout curtains or plantation shutters, and they bring a relaxed, airy feel that suits coastal Illawarra homes. Sheers maintain daytime privacy while letting plenty of natural light through.

Measuring for curtains involves three steps. First, measure the width of your window or the track you want to cover. Second, measure the drop from where the curtain rod or track will sit down to where you want the curtain to finish (usually just touching the floor or with a slight break). Third, decide on your fullness factor (typically 2x to 2.5x the window width for a proper gathered look).
